H YDROSPHERE – One of the 3 most important spheres of earth that supports life.  Water is an everyday necessity. The entire earth lies on the base of a simple compound H 2 O. And its largest source is the oceans. You might think that oceans contain salt water which is unfit for domestic use but it plays a vital role in our life. It brings moisture to land, equable climate, tourism, recreation, medicine and food. Moreover, a different variety of life is enveloped underneath the waters which are an essential aspect in the food chain. Oceans balance atmospheric composition and stabilize the global temperatures. Today, we are misusing them for our greed. Our activities have caused depletion of ocean-health, its resources and diversity. It is time now that we get together to save our oceans.   WATER POLLUTION DUE TO HARMFUL PRACTICES DURING GANESH FESTIVAL Ganesh Chaturthi is a widely celebrated festival originating in Maharashtra which brings joy and unity among different communities as they join together to worship Lord Ganesha. However, in recent times, the exuberance of the festivities has lead to water pollution and adverse effects on our planet. Through this article we try to convey the different harmful effects of the festivities. Ganesh Chaturthi marks the birth of the elephant headed Hindu deity, lord Ganesha. The festivities include idol processions. Unfortunately, majority of the public uses plaster-of-paris(POP) idols which when submerged after the festival, lead to water pollution which have detrimental effects on our present water resources and marine life. Major Harmful Practices include: 1) Plaster of Paris(POP) idols : Most of the idols are made up of POP , non-biodegradable and inorganic material. These models are immersed in water bodies after

OCEAN WARMING- A WARNING BELL The flamingo point in Mumbai was deserted this year. The pink migrating birds had not been much spotted. India experienced a delay in monsoon for two long dry weeks disrupting the agricultural calendar before the Southwest Monsoon winds finally reached Kerela. The stable and calm paleoclimatology of the Arabian Sea has now been replaced with harsh cyclones that have raided the Indian terrain for the recent years consequently with accelerating intensity and frequency.  We may wonder about the cause of such erratic changes. The reason is- OCEAN WARMING. The El-Nino effect of the Pacific Ocean have a widespread impact from Australia to the Indian subcontinent. The unpredictable surface warming that happens with a two-to-seven-year gap has been characterised by a spike in ocean temperatures and has increased the strength and speed of the ocean currents.  Marine ecosystems face the threat of climate change and an unexpected heating up of the ocean waters.
